5 Mother’s Day Gift Ideas that Support Local Businesses
With almost everyone on lockdown, it’s hard to imagine focusing on anything else but the news surrounding COVID-19…and our furry friends of course! I don’t know about you but for us, it’s getting difficult to keep track of what day of the week – or month – it is anymore. If you’re in the same boat (or house) as us then you may not realize that Mother’s Day is a little less than 10 days away – YIKES!
No need to stress or do any last-minute panic google searching (I know we’ve all been there). I’ve already got you covered! I am going to help you find the perfect gift for your Mom – or Moms – that will help out our local (and favorite) small businesses. So let’s get right to it!
* The following list includes only small & local businesses in Pennsylvania that Nate and I have experienced and honestly love. We are not making a commission or profit by promoting them! *
1. Seasonal Grounds
Any Mom who is a lover of coffee or tea will extremely enjoy a gift from Seasonal Grounds! The owner, Thomas Brown, started making his own coffee blends as a hobby and not too long after grew to include his own tea blends due to popular demand.
Under each tea description, you can see how to perfectly steep the tea blends to ensure you experience the flavors correctly. As for the coffee, normally I don’t like drinking it black but that is not the case for the coffee here!
The crazy thing is, none of the blends include syrups or sweeteners and they taste fantastic! Both the teas and coffee blends can be purchased here. (Just a note, if you buy the coffee, they come as whole beans so make sure your mom owns a coffee grinder.)
2. Moonrise Candle
If you know me personally then you know how obsessed I am with candles. I have plenty of candles already but whenever I see Moonrise Candle’s I can’t help myself from buying one… or five!
This Father & Son team have created amazing high quality soy candles that are also so aesthetically pleasing. They have crafted six of their own signature scents that they sell year-round. They also created additional signature scents however, it’s only for their seasonal line.
My favorite smell is the Bergamot + Birch. The best way to describe this smell is to imagine taking a relaxing walk in the woods on a perfect summer morning while drinking a cup of earl gray tea. In other words, it’s heavenly!
Even if your Mom owns plenty of candles, I guarantee she won’t have any that are as amazing as these! View all their candles available for purchase here.
3. Yatzar Clayworks
Looking for a gift that’s as unique and wonderful as your Mom? Well, let me introduce you to Yatzar Clayworks. Owner and creator, Nathan Buck, handcrafts one-of-a-kind pieces that are not only durable for daily use but are also microwaveable and dishwasher safe.
Each piece has its own individual qualities that make it different from the rest and is given its own name. The name reflects the item’s character, purpose, and/or uniqueness.
Personally, I have three different mugs from Yatzar Clayworks and they are the only mugs I use! I got the two mugs pictured below, named Cocoa, three to four years ago. They are still in perfect condition so I can attest that pieces from Yatzar Claywork are made to last. Check out what pieces he has available here or connect directly on Facebook here!
(Also, I absolutely love how he came up with his business name so be sure to read that as well!)
4. The JDK Group
Even if your Mom is the best cook in the world, she shouldn’t have to lift a finger on her special day – unless it’s to sip on sangria. Luckily, The JDK Group, Central Pennsylvania’s premier catering & events company, has created perfect menu options to celebrate Mother’s Day at home!
“We really wanted to try and make sure out Mother’s Day menus were going to provide all the Moms with an elevated food experience that had exceptional flavors,” said Executive Chef of The JDK Group, Josh Varga. “It’s a time for us to celebrate Moms and all they do and what better way to show them with a wonderful meal that can be shared with the family!”
Not only did The JDK Group develop convenient and fun menu options to choose from, but they also have fresh flower and fun design options to surprise your mom with!
All items offer safe contact-less delivery and pickup options. Plus, every purchase results in supporting their hospitality and event industry which is huge! Since their business has been solely dependent on in-person social gatherings any order help tremendously. View all the Mother’s Day options here! (If you are reading this after Mother’s Day please view their JDK At Home options here)
5. Prussian Street Arcade
If your Mom is hard to shop for then all you need is a gift card to the Prussian Street Arcade, and I promise that will do the trick! This place is a dream for anyone who loves shopping and supporting local vendors. They feature over 100 boutique makers and curators throughout their 10,000 square foot market.
I got this adorable plant from one of the vendors at the Prussian Street Arcade and it’s probably my favorite plant. The vendor had an adorable vintage style setup and even though I wasn’t shopping for myself, I couldn’t resist! (I can’t remember the name of the vendor but if I do, I will update it here.)
I brought my Mom here for the first time to use a gift card I got her as a Christmas present. She used well over the full gift card amount and got so many different one-of-a-kind items. We both can’t wait until it’s safe again for them to open back up!
(Sorry Dad for Moms shopping addiction to this place!)
